Getting Lost In Venice: A Tour For Amateur Photographers

This diagonally angled photo shows one of my favorite bridges in Venice. Iron bridges are usually more interesting than brick ones. The photo was taken about an hour before sunset, with a beautiful golden light.

Photography came after painting, and Venice offers both painters and photographers a wealth of interesting sights. In this photo, a painter uses an old credit card as a palette knife to spread paint on the canvas.

When there's high tide in Venice it can be fun, as it seems to be for this boy walking on foot immersed in the water.

Discover Venice Through Photography With A Local Photographer

Venice is one of those places that seems to have been created for photography. Every corner offers a new composition, from elegant palaces and canals to small bridges, quiet streets and colorful details. But sometimes the best way to photograph Venice is to stop following the map and simply get a little lost.

I’m Pietro Volpato, a local professional photographer, and I’ve been organizing private photography experiences in Venice since 2011. My photo tour is designed especially for amateur photographers and photography lovers who want to improve their skills while discovering a different side of the city.

A Private Photo Walk Through Hidden Venice

During our photo walk, we explore Venice at a relaxed pace. We visit some of the famous places, but I especially enjoy taking you away from the busiest tourist routes.

We can wander through quiet streets, discover hidden campos, cross charming bridges and look for interesting details that are easy to miss. Getting lost in Venice is not a problem. In fact, it can be one of the most enjoyable parts of the experience!

As we walk, I’ll help you understand how to look at the city with a more photographic eye. We’ll work with composition, light, perspective and timing, always using the real situations we find along the way.

Learn To Think Like A Photographer

My approach is practical rather than based on long theoretical explanations. Instead of sitting in a classroom, we learn while walking around Venice and taking photographs.

I’ll look at your images with you, point out possible mistakes and suggest alternative points of view. We can experiment with the same subject from different positions and see how a small change can completely transform a photograph.

The goal is not simply to take technically correct pictures. I want to help you become more creative, observant and responsive when you photograph.

Photography With A Camera Or A Smartphone

You don’t need professional equipment to enjoy this Venice photography experience. A reflex, mirrorless camera or even a smartphone is perfectly fine.

If you have a camera, we can work on settings and technique. If you use your phone, we can concentrate even more on creativity, composition and finding original images.

More Than A Photography Workshop

This private photo tour is also a pleasant way to experience Venice with a local.

There is no need to rush from one location to another. We can take breaks for a coffee, an ice cream or some Venetian finger food in local places where you can relax and watch everyday life around you.

I’ll also share stories and interesting facts about Venice along the way. So, while improving your photography, you can enjoy the city, discover hidden corners and experience Venice beyond the usual tourist attractions.

For me, that is the real idea behind a photo walk in Venice: learning, exploring, experimenting and having fun while getting wonderfully lost in the labyrinth of this unique city.
